Dear Members
Well summer has finally arrived and for those of you who have visited the club in the last few weeks you will have noticed how lovely the Rose Garden is looking. Dining out on the Terrace is an excellent way to relax after a hard day at the office. Saturday June 2nd saw the pool officially opened. With the water temperature posted as 24deg C I decided to have my first dip of the year! Maybe I need to recheck that temperature next time! The pool really is in excellent condition this year and I encourage you all to make use of this wonderful facility that is an “Oasis” in the middle of Kobe. The children’s pool has a sun cover so the little ones can play all day without any fear of sunburn.

On the business side I want to thank all the members who attended the EGM and contributed to the meeting with their thoughts and ideas. The interim Articles of Association were approved and your General Committee can now move forward with the formal process of approval from the Government.
Earlier in the year the Club carried out a survey in order that the General Committee could gauge the feeling of the membership regarding the future development of the club. It is no secret that with the shifting demographics, regarding foreigners in Kobe, membership income and club spending is in decline and that the club needs to consider all options that will enable it to survive financially well into the future.
We can divide the survey into two parts. Part A concerned options that would keep the club on the existing site, but explore ways of increasing revenue via changing the membership mix and/or some real estate development. Part B concerned selling the present site and the building of a new clubhouse with modern facilities at a new location.
We received 110 replies with 85 votes for Section A and 22 votes for Section B. There were 3 invalid responses. I would like to express the General Committees appreciation to the membership for taking the time to complete the survey. In addition to the votes there were a lot of very constructive comments that we will take on board. The results will now assist the General Committee in developing plans for the future of the club.
Before closing I would like to remind members of the excellent products on sale at the club for which we have managed to obtain additional discounts on some. From T shirts to cuff links the items are competitively priced and make a lovely gift for friends and family or maybe just as a souvenir.
Please also keep an eye out for upcoming events at the club and do come along to the “New Members” nights to welcome new people to the club and catch up with friends. Don’t forget “Happy Hour” in the bar is from 5pm – 7pm.
