One Enchanted Evening: the 2017 President’s Ball

Once upon a time in a land not very far away, a beautiful club ourished amongst pruned pines in carefully tended gardens, with roses growing on the terrace.

On October 14th, a lavish ball was held. Members and friends thronged the Club bar where sparkling champagne, ruby wine and exotic blue cocktails owed. From the ballroom came the sounds of the nine-piece Kyoto Composers Jazz Orchestra, led by Tomomi Taniguchi, beckoning revellers to dine and dance.
Seated under glittering swags at candlelit tables decorated with roses, the guests heard Perrault’s magical 18th Century tale of a prince and his love: Beauty and the Beast. Costumed dancers Takahiro Adachi and Moegi Takeuchi waltzed gracefully to their own choreography of Belle’s theme music.
Famous in all the land of Nippon, Chef Kamiki and his workers had created a banquet t for a prince and princess. The guests dined sumptuously on salade de la soirée (was that a rainbow?), potage de potiron (were those pearls at the bottom?), exquisite packages of seafood, buttery beef, and creamy, sweet roses for dessert.
When all were replete, Sanae Myojo and her niece Mio Tatsuki entertained guests with stories of Takarazuka. Then Takarazuka dancers Rei Ayaka and Kyoka Yoshino swept everyone to a place of enchantment with their elegant moves and ne clothes. Madame de Garderobe was surely there!
The hosts of the feast, Club President Nathan Bryan and Entertainment Committee Member Ricaco Jepson, assisted by Club staff, recreated a storybook setting complete with a stained glass stage design by Bunya- san. As the guests departed, it was easy to believe they would all live happily ever after.
