Sunday, December 9th

On Saturday 9th December 2017, the Kobe Club hosted a Scandinavian Christmas Smörgåsbord, which is a long- standing Club tradition over many years.

I feel proud that the Club still keeps this tradition and we can enjoy it. When we joined the Club about 20 years ago, Scandinavian children celebrating the feast of Santa Lucia used to walk solemnly round the dining room, wearing traditional costumes and candle-lit crowns on their heads, singing hymns, which naturally created a beautiful atmosphere.
The Scandinavian Christmas celebration starts on the rst Sunday of advent. Nordic people tell us that Santa Lucia is associated with light during the dark wintertime.
In the Nordic countries, the nights are long and the days are dark this time of year. Nevertheless, Scandinavian Christmas attracts me greatly because of the various colorful elements, such as Christmas trees and other decorations, carols, illuminations on streets, costumes, foods, cookies and so forth.
The evening’s dinner on the 9th was delicious as always, prepared by Chef Kamiki and his team. During dessert, Ricaco Jepsen introduced newly married Club Members, Dr. Rio Noto and Mr. Soichiro Oda. Congratulations to them and we wish them a bright and happy life.
Lastly, I would like to thank all who worked to make the evening so successful. As always I feel that as Club Members we are very fortunate to be able to enjoy exceptional events such as this Smörgåsbord.
