Sunday, February 4th

On Sunday, February 4th, 37 Kobe Club Members enjoyed the 9th annual Raclette night, an “oishii” night of hot melted cheese and potatoes, along with starters of salad and salmon. As an American, married to a Dutch man, I was unfamiliar with this uniquely Swiss tradition. My husband and I had enjoyed cheese fondue many times before, including at home, but we had always dipped into the Swiss cheese with French baguette.

Over the Christmas break we had traveled to Niseko (Hokkaido) to ski and enjoyed Raclette for the rst time at a lovely French/Swiss restaurant there called Alpinist.
It was fun for me, as an American, to discover European traditions, but even more entertaining is that I am discovering them in Japan! At our table were 4 Americans, 1 Dutch and 2 Japanese. That’s the beauty of the Kobe Club, that it brings together people of completely different backgrounds and experiences into a setting where we can share our cultures. I am also a member of Kobe Women’s Club which meets on Tuesdays at Kobe Club. I am looking forward to next year’s Raclette evening. Now off to the gym!
