We’re thrilled to be able to report that, despite trimming KGCF to one day only, this year’s Festival made close to 2 million yen! This compares with around 2.5 million in past years. This reflects the hard work and generosity of many people and we are enormously grateful.

Saturday, October 21st

The 55th Annual Souza Cup golf competition was played on Saturday October 21st. I can hear you asking “What’s the Souza Cup?” In fact, even those who participated were not aware of its history and so Mr. Soichi Takahata, President of Kobe Golf Club (KGC), kindly included a brief history of the event in his speech during the dinner which was held at the Kobe Club in the evening.

Friday, October 20th

Once again the Kobe club provided a feast for our senses at the 3rd Japanese Cultural evening in the series, with Japanese dance interpretation by Heidi Durning accompanied on the Nohkan flute by Kumiko Nonaka.

Saturday, October 14th

This year's Presidential Ball, themed "Kobe Club Idol" was a big success. For those of you who have been living in underground bunkers, or who have been on sabbatical with stone age tribes, or have otherwise been beyond the reach of American cultural hegemony, it should be explained that "Idol" can mean only one thing - it is an unmistakable reference to the Fox television network's smash-hit "American Idol".

As this is my first time writing to you as Membership Convenor of the Kobe Club, I thought it would be a good opportunity to use my time in the Bar productively to ask some of our fellow members why they choose to spend their precious leisure hours here.
